What to expect from a pub quiz as a company outing
A pub quiz as a company outing usually takes an hour to an hour and a half. You play in teams, for example by department, and work through a few rounds with different kinds of questions. In between you see the standings, and you finish with a final score and a winner. It is low-key: everyone joins in, including colleagues who would never call themselves quiz fanatics.
- Expect four to eight rounds of about ten questions each.
- Teams of two to five colleagues work best.
- Alternate tough trivia with lighter rounds to keep up the pace.
- A small prize for the winning team makes it just a bit more competitive.

More than trivia alone
A pub quiz does not have to be trivia only. Mix in a music round, an estimation question where the closest answer wins, a map round where you point out a location, or a ranking round. That variety keeps everyone engaged, including the colleagues who are not walking encyclopedias.
Tips for playing them
- Mix easy and hard questions so everyone can join in.
- Split colleagues into teams, for example by department.
- Put the questions on a big screen so everyone can read along.
- Have someone keep track of points and time, or use a tool that does it for you.
Rather not keep score yourself?
